An Access NI check is a criminal record check for people living or working in Northern Ireland. There are three levels of checks Basic, Standard and Enhanced. You can apply through the Access NI as an individual for a basic disclosure.

Our Access NI application is quick and easy, but here is an overview of the process and some frequently asked questions.
1 Your organisation will need to register with Active background checks, then you will be able to create your own admin logins.
2 The applicant will need to register with NI Direct and create an account then follow the application instructions.
3 Employer would complete and application advisory form and forward to active background checks. We quality check and process the application and send it to the Access NI.
4 Access NI completes their in-house process and notifies us upon completion.
5 An indicative notice will be sent via our team. The hard paper copy if it has been requested will be sent to your home address.
How do I fill in the Access NI application form in?
All levels of Access NI applications are completed via their own web portal.
Application is looking for a PIN number, where can I find this?
Employers requiring a higher-level disclosure application will need to contact us to request this.
How long do it take to complete an Access NI check?
The service level agreement with Access NI is 28 days.
I am a volunteer, could I still have an access NI check?
Yes, volunteers can still apply for a criminal record check.
How can I view my certificate?
If you have no criminal history to disclose, you’ll receive a digital disclosure certificate. You can view the certificate from your nidirect account. If the certificate discloses criminal record or other information or you requested a paper copy, you’ll receive a printed certificate by post.
